Vision:

Library of the   Medical Research Institute will be creating and delivering high-quality, user-focused information resources and services to support and facilitate all the researchers in the field of human and animal health and creating the most dynamic learning environment.


Mission:

To deliver a high standard of library resources and information services to meet the academic and professional needs of the researchers to support the mission of the Medical Research Institute to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning and research at the highest level of excellence.


The purpose of the MRI Library is to support the mission of MRI by working in cooperation with the staff with the support of the relevant authorities to facilitate, nurture, develop and stimulate the researcher’ enthusiasm for learning and research in a professional learning environment. The library strives to achieve this purpose through its collections, facilities, personnel and services, which collectively uphold the goals, standards and traditions of the Medical Research Institute. Through the acquisition and management of relevant collections, the library seeks to fulfill the instructional and research needs of users. A qualified staff committed to bibliographic instruction promotes the library mission to foster researcher’s maturation in knowledge, information literacy and lifelong learning.

The MRI Library, Sri Lanka is one of the very few libraries in the country which belongs to the Ministry of Health. The library is designated to collect, disseminate and preserve the printed material produced in the MRI/country/world to the Staff and Training students at MRI. The library is situated in the Main MRI Building Room No 120.


Working hours are every week days from 8.30am to 4.00pm

Ongoing Activities

Automation of the MRI Library Using KOHA Library Automation Sysytem with the help of the Open University of Sri Lanka . This fully automated computerized system was introduced by a WHO sponsored KOHA workshop conducted in 2013 which was conducted by HELLIS network.
